Tithing saves you from hardship

Tithing is a biblical principle. It may take you a while to understand, believe and have faith in it but once you do and start the process you will be blessed and GOD will always protect you from hardship.

GOD does not need our money, but he wants us to understand the principle of giving to others, saving and investing so that we may prosper. GOD is our greatest employer; he is the one that has given us that contract or that job.

Deuteronomy 8:18 – ‘and you shall remember the Lord your GOD, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth’

So we should be giving 10% back to him each month, not hoarding it. When we pay him first we are honouring him, we are saying he is more important above everything in our lives. All he asks is for 10% which is mandatory.

Genesis 28:20-22 – Jacob’s vow ‘If GOD will be with me and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on. So that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my GOD. And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be GOD’s house and of all that you give me I will surely give a tenth to you’.

Your tithes can be paid weekly or monthly whenever you get your salary. The amount is 10% of your gross amount. You should give it to your local church where you fellowship.

I personally pay my tithes by standing order before I pay any of my bills. I put GOD first every month even when I am between IT Contracts. When I give him that 10% (I actually give more) I find that the 90% left goes amazingly further. I started the principle of tithing every month in 2008, but decided to set up a standing order in 2009 once I could see that the church I was going to had proper accounts and I was able to view them.

How does money going further? That is what GOD will do for you when you open your hand. When you rob GOD you are robbing yourself.

Malachi 3:9 – ‘you are cursed with a curse, for you have robbed me, even this whole nation’.

When you give cheerfully to GOD he will bless you.

Malachi 3:10 – ‘Bring all the tithes into the storehouse that there may be food in my house, and try me now in this. Says the Lord of hosts, ‘If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing, that there will not be room enough to receive it’.

This is a superb video by Pastor Billy Ritchie of Milton Keynes Christian Centre which I hope will give you a greater understanding of how to start ‘Tithing’.

Please send me a message if this article and video has helped you in anyway. God Bless

One Response to Tithing saves you from hardship

  1. Gary Arnold says:

NO ONE, absolutely NO ONE pays the Biblical tithe today.

Leviticus 27:30-33, Numbers 18: The First Tithe – a tenth of crops and animals and commanded to take the tithe to the Levites.

Deuteronomy 14:22-27: The Second Tithe aka The Festival Tithe – a tenth of crops, plus add to that the firstborn animals, and take for the yearly feast.

Deuteronomy 14:28-29: The Third Tithe aka The Three-Year Tithe aka The Poor Tithe – a tenth of crops, kept at home, and invite the Levites, widows, orphans, stranger to eat.

Now, tell me. Which of the above three tithes commanded by God does anyone follow today?

The ONLY people in the Old Testament that were commanded to tithe were those who INHERITED THE PROMISED LAND WITH EVERYTHING ON IT. They got the land, house, animals, crops, etc. ALL FREE AND CLEAR. No mortgage payment or rent to pay. And THEY were commanded to tithe on the crops and animals and take it to the Levites who INHERITED the tithe INSTEAD OF the promised land with everything on it. No one else tithed. Wage earners did not tithe. Jesus didn’t tithe. Paul didn’t tithe. Peter didn’t tithe.

HOW CAN YOU COMPARE THAT WITH CHRISTIANS WHO HAVE TO PAY THEIR MORTGAGE PAYMENT OR RENT, INCOME TAXES, PROPERTY TAXES, SALES TAXES, ETC?

There is no way to justify making some “principle” out of the Biblical facts and then apply it to Christians today. It is just flat out wrong and makes no sense at all.

The New Testament teaches generous, sacrificial giving, from the heart, according to our means. For some, $1 might be a sacrifice, while for others, even giving 50% of their income might not induce a sacrifice. In the Old Testament, ONLY the farmers tithed, and it was equal percentage (a tenth). The New Testament teaches the principle of equal sacrifice instead of equal percentage. Equal sacrifice is much harder to achieve, if not impossible, than giving ten percent.
